Forest of Symbols

Nature is a temple in which living pillars
sometimes give voice to confused words;
Man passes there through forests of symbols
which look at him with understanding eyes.

Charles Baudelaire

The number 40 has a powerful significance in many spiritual traditions and cultures, marking a period of purification, purging and refinement, a benchmark of deep transformation.

In this multi-disciplinary body of work consisting of 40 paintings created over a period of 40 days , Isabelle Gaborit creates her own unique visual language of tales and myth, plunging viewers into her world of symbols and dreams that spark the imagination in both a fearful and playful manner. She combines the mythological with the monstrous, in a very evocative and compelling manner, then melds them into other figures, and it becomes this wild dream space involving vulnerability, delicacy, fragility and strength.
