Description
Breathe in the ever-changing skies and luminous vistas of Renvyle in this immersive two-day workshop, where you’ll discover new ways to see and paint the landscape. Inspired by Connemara’s extraordinary light, we’ll move beyond realism to create vibrant, expressive works that capture atmosphere, memory, and mood.

About the Workshop
Through hands-on exercises, demonstrations, and guided painting sessions, you’ll learn to simplify, deconstruct, and reimagine the landscape—distilling scenes down to their essential shapes, rhythms, and energies.
A key focus will be on layers of light: experimenting with transparent and opaque colors to build depth, contrast, and a sense of shifting luminosity. You’ll start with quick sketches and intuitive studies, then explore mark-making, playful underpaintings, and experimental layering.
Along the way, we’ll look at how artists across history have approached abstraction in landscape painting and draw inspiration from the surrounding scenery. Whether you’re an experienced painter looking to loosen up or a curious beginner ready to explore abstraction, this workshop offers a supportive and inspiring space to develop your personal artistic voice—all guided by the light-filled beauty of Connemara.

About the Location
The Renvyle peninsula, perched on Ireland’s western edge, is a feast for the senses: long stretches of pristine sandy beaches—White Strand, Lettergesh, and Glassilaun—rolling hills, sparkling lakes, stone walls, and vibrant paddocks.
In spring, the mountains shift from grey to dazzling white, then glow golden-orange in the late afternoon sun. Storms bring dramatic changes: skies turn from black to blue, hills transform through shades of orange, red, brown, and green, and every element—from sky to rivers—sparkles with Connemara’s unique light. It’s a landscape that inspires painting at every turn.
