Why do I call them vessels instead of bowls?
I am fascinated with the sacred nuances of the word Vessel, for carrying something precious and unique, a treasure which should be protected and adored. Each encaustic vessel is a one of a kind, original encaustic artwork, an immediate and tactile painting method using molten pigmented natural beeswax and Damar resin. An artwork made with Passion, Fire and Wax.
Are they fragile?
They would be as fragile as glasswork. Encaustic painting is perhaps the most durable form of painting, evidenced by the Fayum mummy portraits in Egypt, which have survived over 2000 years without cracking, flaking, or fading. Damar resin is added to the pure beeswax which helps the artwork to cure and harden the wax over time.
How do I care for my encaustic vessel?
These sculptural artworks should be treated like any artwork, safe away from direct sunlight, high temperature and water. A gentle buffing with a soft cloth will help them keep their shine and vibrancy. It is moisture, mildew and fungus resistant. It will not darken or yellow with age
