About the workshop

Experience an immersive weekend workshop where you’ll journey into the captivating world of large-scale encaustic painting. Delve into the nuances of scale, refining your skills as you confront the technical intricacies of crafting expansive, seamless artworks. Gain confidence in selecting the right tools to tackle ambitious projects.

Under the guidance of Isabelle, you’ll participate in a series of guided sketching exercises tailored to deepen your understanding of your own unique artistic vision.

Drawing inspiration from the breathtaking landscape of the west coast of Ireland, we’ll explore techniques that mirror the natural processes of erosion, deposition, and relief. From building up layers to scraping back, heating, cooling, and shaping, you’ll learn to create highly tactile surfaces. Along the way, we’ll delve into essential elements such as composition, value, and tone, as well as the dance between opacity and transparency.

Tailored for artists or enthusiasts who have completed an introductory encaustic painting workshop, we’ll begin with a comprehensive review of foundational concepts before delving into advanced territory, refining techniques and elevating your artistry to new heights.

By workshop’s end, you’ll not only have expanded your understanding of encaustic painting but also gained mastery over the medium, empowering you to confidently create on a larger scale. You’ll depart armed with a comprehensive handout encompassing workshop highlights and a curated list of suppliers to support your artistic journey.

About the Location

The Renvyle peninsula sits in the far edge of the western shores of Ireland, with its long stretches of the clean sandy beaches of White Strand, Lettergesh Beach and stunning Glassilaun Beach.  A wealth of textures and colors, all bathing in the extraordinary light of Connemara .

 

In the Summer, the mountains would change from grey to dazzling white and then glow golden orange with the descending sun.  As storm passes, the sky, which was once black tuns blue, the hills from orange, brown, red and green.  The countryside sparkle and everything contribute: The sky, the hills, lakes and rivers, stone walls and paddocks.

 

Details

Dates: Saturday 17th, 10 to 4pm /Sunday 18th May 2025, 10 to 4 pm.

Location: Renvyle, Co Galway, Ireland.

Fee: €300. The package price includes 2 days of total encaustic painting immersion, all tuition and materials. R&F Handmade Paints generously support this workshop.Also, a pdf printout containing all the information you need as well as a list of suppliers.

Workshop limited to 10 participants.

This workshop is tailored for artists or art enthusiasts who have completed an introductory encaustic painting workshop and are eager to delve deeper.

Accommodation is not included in the fee.

Please check Air B&B website or booking.com for available accommodation in proximity. The workshops will take place in Renvyle, Co. Galway, only 10 minutes from Letterfrack and 20 minutes to Clifden.

 

Important note: Due to the high demand for  my workshops this year, all places on all workshops are limited and sold on a first-booked, first-served basis, which means that you will need to secure your space  as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
