Description of the two fold workshop:

  • Day 1 ( Saturday 27th March, 10 to 4 pm ) :Experienced tutor and ceramic artist Tina murphy will join Isabelle to take you on a journey taking two seemingly opposite ideas and merging them ; and of course what a better way to start than with clay,  a great medium to ignite your creativity.During the first workshop, Tina will share her skills and expertise gained over many years of working with clay and teaching others. You will have the opportunity to take that idea from your head and move it to a more tangible space where you can add your very own touch. Tina will guide you to build your three dimension sculpture, by breaking it down step by step looking at the challenges an artist faces when working with clay. You will explore its durability and how to manipulate it: How easy it bends; how to create wonderful texture, how to use moulds. You will  get the opportunity to build your very own sculpture and using encaustic to a piece that you are going to love and treasure. You will only uses the best stoneware clay: on this course you will be using sculptural clay as this helps the clay to keep its form more easily.Everything will be fired in a kiln during the off weeks and be ready to wax in our second workshop.

  • Day 2 ( Sunday 11th April,10 to 4 pm) During the day long workshop, Encaustic artist, Isabelle Gaborit will guide the participants to create a richly layered, gorgeous artworks on the bisqueware they would have  created on session#1 with artist Tina Murphy  .

She will introduce you to the basic techniques of encaustic painting, sharing its spontaneous virtues of working with texture and colours and its versatility with building up layers. You will have the opportunity to learn easy and effective techniques in a fun and relax atmosphere Using an experimental approach to explore technique and manipulate the paint

She will help you take the encaustic painting medium to another level, where you will be exploring the sculptural and light carrying quality of the medium in a 3D form and create  beautiful artworks and embellish it using a wide range of techniques.

Encaustic is an ancient medium used in Ancient Egypt to create paintings and sculptures, involving pure natural beeswax melted with Dammar resin, to which natural pigments may be added. This process will harden and add transparency, vibrancy, and lustre to the artwork.

Each artwork made by the participants will be one of a kind piece, made with clay and pure beeswax, Dammar resin and natural pigments.

This particular workshop is designed for everyone: absolute beginners and developing artists alike.
