Description

About the virtual course

A step by step online class for encaustic painters and artists who wish to include new techniques in their encaustic paintings.

Experiment with the necessary physicality of the processes that shaped the land, may they be erosion, deposition, weathering or relief,  by building up, scrapping back, heating, cooling, scoring, shaping and building up layers.

During this class, I will be offering guidance and knowledge of processes and techniques I have used for the last decade in my artistic practice.

I will  guide you through her step-by-step process and will  demonstrate various techniques which can be used by artists working with encaustic painting, focusing on geological activity and phenomena in relation to notions of time.

Like the natural forces which give shape to the landscape over long period of time, I will demonstrate the necessary physicality of the processes that shaped the land, may they be erosion, deposition, weathering or relief, by building up, scrapping back, heating, cooling, scoring, shaping and building up layers.

In overall, by mimicking the addition and subtraction of geological processes in nature, I am hoping to reveal records or stories, whose traces are still left on highly tactile surfaces.

Start from the basics, adding artistic techniques to the flow of your blowtorch to create expressive compositions.

About the class

Encaustic is an ancient medium used in Ancient Egypt to create paintings, involving pure natural beeswax melted with Damar resin, to which natural pigments may be added. This process will harden and add transparency, vibrancy, and lustre to the artwork.

You will get the same in-depth information shared during my workshops but in the comfort of your own home.

This online course uses Zoom video-conferencing platform for 2 hours, 7-9 pm (GMT), supplemented with  study notes and lessons.

You will also have access to one-to-one student support and feedback from me via a private Facebook Group created especially for you if you wish to connect and share your work with a community of fellow encaustic artists.

The class will include demonstrations, guiding you in detail through the encaustic process, interaction and discussion about the methods and techniques shown , and practical  exercises which can be submitted via the FB group after the workshop  for individual appraisal or group support.

This is an intermediate class and this course is suitable for people with a basic knowledge of encaustic painting.

I will not be going over encaustic basics.

If you would like to take this workshop and do not have experience with encaustic I recommend you taking my Introduction to Encaustic workshop or scheduling a private workshop with me before this one.
