Description of the week end immersion into encaustic painting

Are you art enthusiast wanting to discover a new versatile painting process in an intimate studio setting and a beautiful location?

Do you want to recharge your creative batteries and create beautiful atmospheric artwork and embellish them using a wide range of techniques in a relax and inspiring environment?

I invite you to spend the weekend and engage with the stunningly beautiful location which is the Inagh Valley in the heart of Connemara and discover the art of encaustic painting, an ancient painting process using molten beeswax, resins and natural pigments.

About the workshop

During this weekend workshop,  Isabelle will demonstrate various techniques which can be used by artists working with encaustic painting, focusing on geological activity and phenomena in relation to notions of time. Like the natural forces which give shape to the landscape over long period of time, she will demonstrate the necessary physicality of the processes that shaped the land, may they be erosion, deposition, weathering or relief, by building up, scrapping back, heating, cooling, scoring, shaping and building up layers. In overall, by mimicking the addition and subtraction of geological processes in nature, she is hoping to reveal records or stories, whose traces are still left on highly tactile surfaces.

Participants will be exposed to basic, intermediate and advanced techniques in working with encaustic medium.

Whether you come with a project in mind or a blank canvas, you will find support and input, from like-minded people, while being given all the skills you need for creative growth.

Engage with the light filled ruggedness of Connemara and generates new visions, while taking the opportunity to meet fellow artists.

About the Location

Imagine being surrounded by the  Sléibhte Mhám Toirc, the rugged beauty of the Inagh Valley, where the light,  clouds and mist fight for dominance and offers an amazing palette in full display. In the Spring, the mountains would change from grey to dazzling white and then glow golden orange with the descending sun.  As storm passes, the sky, which was once black tuns blue, the hills from orange, brown, red and green.  The countryside sparkle and everything contribute: The sky, the hills, lakes and rivers, stone walls and paddocks. This  barren landscape  has captivated the hearts and soul of poets, painters, artists and writers for a very long time. I can certainly count myself among them. Connemara took my heart many years ago and I have finally made my home close to it and it has become one of my chosen inspiration for my own work.
