Sculptural Encaustic Vessels

An Online Half-Day Workshop with artist Isabelle Gaborit

( via zoom)

That word describes both the encaustic vessel I made in class and Isabelle herself, who radiates enthusiasm and metaphorical “light” as she teaches.

She is definitely in her element when teaching; she’s relaxed, fun, and takes care to demonstrate steps thoroughly.

Because she’s super knowledgeable about and at ease with encaustic, she checks frequently with students to be sure they’re understanding, and answers all questions very completely.

I loved learning about and then making little vessels!

It’s so enchanting to see the play of light through layers of wax when the light is right.

The translucence of a three dimensional encaustic piece is truly special!

About the virtual course

I am delighted to be bringing to you an online version of one of my most popular encaustic painting workshops, finally available for you to book from wherever you are in the world.

Vessel, From Old Frenchvaissel’ , implies a container, a chalice but also a ship or a boat.

‘I am fascinated with the sacred nuances of the word vessel,

for carrying something precious and unique,

a treasure which should be protected and adored.

You are invited to join Isabelle for a short online workshop where artists will be introduced to the creation of sculptural free standing encaustic vessels.

During this workshop, Isabelle will take encaustic artwork to another level, where you will be exploring the sculptural and light carrying quality of the medium in a 3D form.

Each artwork made by the participants will be a one of a kind encaustic vessel, made with pure beeswax, Damar resin and natural pigments.

Encaustic is an ancient medium used in Ancient Egypt to create paintings and sculptures, involving pure natural beeswax melted with Damar resin, to which natural pigments may be added. This process will harden and add transparency, vibrancy, and lustre to the artwork.

You will get the same in-depth information shared during my workshops but in the comfort of your own home.

This online course uses Zoom video-conferencing platform, 6-8.30pm (GMT), supplemented with  study notes and lessons.

You will also have access to one-to-one student support and feedback from me via a private Facebook Group created especially for you if you wish to connect and share your work with a community of fellow encaustic artists.

The class will include demonstrations, guiding you in detail through the encaustic process, interaction and discussion about the methods and techniques shown , and practical  exercises which can be submitted via the FB group after the workshop  for individual appraisal or group support.

This is an intermediate class and this course is suitable for people with a basic knowledge of encaustic painting.
