Description
Discover new ways of seeing and painting the landscape in this immersive two-day encaustic workshop in Dublin. Together we’ll explore how light, colour, atmosphere, and memory can transform familiar places into expressive, abstract paintings.
Rather than focusing on literal representation, you’ll learn to simplify the landscape into its essential shapes, rhythms, and layers of light, creating work that captures mood and emotion as much as place.
Whether inspired by Dublin’s coastline, parks, waterways or ever-changing skies, this workshop invites you to slow down, observe differently, and develop a more personal response to the landscape.

About the Workshop
Through demonstrations, practical exercises, and guided painting sessions, you’ll explore ways to simplify, deconstruct, and reinterpret the landscape, distilling what you see into expressive compositions built around shape, movement, colour, and light.
A central focus will be on creating luminous surfaces using encaustic. You’ll experiment with transparent and opaque layers to build depth, atmosphere, and subtle shifts of light. Beginning with quick observational sketches and intuitive studies, you’ll develop paintings through playful underpainting, mark-making, and layered colour.
We’ll also look at how artists throughout history have embraced abstraction in landscape painting, using their work as inspiration while encouraging you to develop your own visual language.
Whether you’re an experienced painter looking to loosen your approach or a beginner curious about abstraction and encaustic painting, this workshop offers a supportive and inspiring environment in which to experiment, learn, and grow.
