Instructor: Deborah Watkins

Learn the fundamentals of working with clay and ceramics.

The first class will take place on Saturday 7th September, facilitated by artist Deborah Watkins. This session will focus on creating a number of clay forms that will be suitable for encaustic decoration. Deborah will demonstrate how our ancestors made the first pots by pinching a simple pot from a lump of clay. Deborah will also demonstrate modern slab building techniques and how it is possible to combine pinching and slab building to make interesting forms. These clay pieces will be dried, and kiln fired by Deborah in advance of the second class in October. We will aim to make four pieces each by the end of the day.
